Ateno and Ratesteel’s Seamless Collaboration Built on Automated Production and Decades of Expertise

For years, Ateno and Ratesteel have refined their production processes in close collaboration with their customers. Their ability to manufacture high-quality, highly processes components is driven by continuous investments in the industry’s most advanced machinery.

Ateno is known particularly for its vast range of cutting machinery and for providing an extensive service offering for assembly-ready components. Pioneers in ArcTig welding, Ratesteel specializes in welded steel products, such as boom structures and rotational parts. After years of strong, mutually complementary collaboration, Ateno acquired Ratesteel in 2022. For Ateno founders Juhani Koivisto and Kari Koivisto, acquiring their long-standing partner was as a part of a natural continuum:

– Our customers include leading machine and equipment manufacturers, for whom an efficient production chain is crucial. The acquisition strengthened our production of highly processed and welded components, Juhani Koivisto states.

Production Chain Between Two Factories Optimized to the Fullest

To ensure flexible deliveries on schedule, even with varying batch sizes, Ateno and Ratesteel have been developing their production processes in close collaboration with customers for years.

– Our products leave our factory assembled and pre-equipped to the stage where they can be delivered straight to the customer’s assembly line, Koivisto continues.

Ateno is located in Evijärvi and its subsidiary in Vieremä. The distance between the factories is roughly 200 kilometers. Optimally functioning logistics between the locations is an integral part of maintaining efficient cooperation. Products are shipped between factories sometimes several times a day: Ateno’s core services include the steel cutting of various pieces as well as tube and profile cutting, along with bending, machining, welding and surface treatment. Ratesteel, whose high-quality welding methods are in high demand among customers, completes the service offering with assembly-ready steel components for vehicles, heavy machinery and the process industry.

– Efficient road transport enables us to seamlessly transfer components and products between locations daily. Our competitiveness and the efficiency of our operations is further supported by unified operating principles within the group. For customers, the benefits of our cooperation are reflected in competitive pricing and shorter delivery times, Koivisto says.

Quality Certificate Elevates Ateno to the Top in High-Strength Steel Handling Across the Nordics

Koivisto mentions that many visitors have been impressed by Ateno’s facilities and modern machinery, which represent the cutting edge of the market:

– Our machinery and equipment, particularly our cutting machinery, consistently attract positive attention from visitors. In laser cutting, we utilize the most advanced technology available, while Ratesteel’s production includes fully automated, robotized welding cells and FMS production cells, Koivisto explains.

Comprehensive quality, backed by international certifications, is at the core of both companies’ operating philosophy. Ateno Oy was recently acknowledged as the first Strenx® certified fabricator in the Nordic countries – a testament to the company’s exceptional skills and expertise in handling high-strength Strenx® structural steel.

– With Strenx structural steel, we secure our ability to continue producing assembly-ready components and steel cut parts that meet the highest standards of leading machinery and equipment manufacturers. We have the capacity and the desire to manufacture high-quality, highly processed components for both existing and potential customers. Our operations are further supported by our continuous investments in the industry’s most advanced machinery”, Koivisto concludes.
